Getting to Tigoni

Tigoni is easiest to get to by car, and depending on where you start, will take between 30mins and 1 hour. The three main routes to Tigoni by road are:

 

  • Gitaru Road / Limuru Road : Ideal if you are starting from Karen, Lavington, Spring Valley, Westlands and pretty much most of Nairobi that is south of the expressway. Limuru Road is also perhaps the most well-known route to Tigoni is via Limuru Road. This road not only connects Nairobi to the charming town of Limuru but also offers a gateway to the scenic wonders of Tigoni. 
  • Banana Hill Route : Parallel to Limuru Road, one of the charming routes to reach Tigoni is via Banana Hill. This scenic road not only provides a pleasant journey but also offers glimpses of the surrounding lush landscapes. Ideal if you are starting from Gigiri, Runda & Rosslyn. Be aware of a few traffic hot spots at Ruaka and Banana Market. A good stop on the way is Banana Hill Art Gallery.  
  • Nairobi – Nakuru Highwa y: For those traveling directly from the airport or from farther regions like Masai Mara, Naivasha or Nakuru, the Nairobi – Nakuru Highway is a major artery that leads you to Tigoni. Embark on a picturesque drive as you journey along this highway, taking in the changing vistas along the way. As you approach Tigoni, you’ll be greeted by the inviting sights that make this area so special. Look out for exit points to Limuru that guide you from the highway.

By Public Transport

 

  • Uber & Taxis : It’s fairly easy to get to & from Tigoni by taxi, from almost anywhere in Nairobi. Ride hailing apps such as Bolt & Uber are generally the most affordable option but are sometimes tricky to get a driver quickly for the return journey. Most private taxis will offer a day rate, which would work out better if you are planning to visit several places in Tigoni during your visit.    
  • Matatus & Bodas : For those looking for budget-friendly options or a break from driving, Matatus are a viable choice. The ubiquitous minibuses, ply various routes, from Nairobi’s Khoja Stage to Limuru Town. Once in Limuru, hop into a local taxi or boda boda to reach Tigoni. While this option requires a bit of planning, it allows you to experience local life and interact with fellow travelers.

Cycling to Tigoni

For the adventurous and only recommended for only those who are familiar with and have had previous experience of cycling on the road, Tigoni is a challenging 1 hour uphill ride from Nairobi. The best route is the Banana Raini Road from 2 Rivers Mall.
